What to expect & how to prepare for classes:

Here are a few things we would like to share with you to help you be prepared for the classes

  • Where: Sessions will be held live on Zoom - the link will be emailed to you
  • Computer set up: It'll be great if you could practice on the same spot every time- a well-ventilated space free of distractions. Please ensure that we can see your full body. This will help us to provide verbal alignment cues
  • Discipline: Request you to please join the class on time. These are changing times - but also the best time to inculcate self-discipline which is so important in a holistic yoga practice.
  • Props: We might use props during the sessions. Ideally it will be good to have the following objects around which may be used as props:
    - a strap or scarf
    - a few cushions/bolsters
    - a 1 litre water bottle (to be used as weights)
    - a resistance band or a stretchy pair of yoga tights or anything with an elastic
    - your yoga block (if you have one) or a stack of books around
    - a small stool or muda
  • Pranayama: During pranayama sessions, sitting on cushions with the hips elevated slightly above the knees helps take the pressure off the lower back. In case you have a lower back injury please keep a bolster or pillows under your knee while in Savasana
  • Prepare: Please avoid eating a heavy meal less than 2 hours before pranayama and asana practice
  • Listen to your body and mind please! We invite you to communicate with us afterwards and let us know if a practice made you uncomfortable or led to disturbing thoughts. Please do let us know, if at any point, a pose troubles you. This is a safe space
  • Hydrate: Please keep a bottle of water near-by to stay hydrated. It's okay to take small sips (not gulps) during the asana practice

Frequently Asked Questions

1. Who are these classes for? What will it do for me?

These classes are specially designed for everyone. The idea is to make yoga asana accessible through use of props, proper understanding of how a pose feels rather than how it looks. So whether you're someone who has struggled with a past injury, have a chronic physical or mental ailment/s - these classes are designed to accommodate everyone. We will focus on moving mindfully and build a practice which is both calming and energising.

 2. What if I miss a class? How can I still attend?

You will get access to the Anukarma monthly Zoom recording course worth ₹1800, free of cost when you sign up for Zoom sessions. The recordings of these classes will be available as part of it. So if you miss the live timings, you can always practice on your own through the recordings at a time suitable for you.

3. I'm a beginner, can I attend the classes?

All the classes across the week are designed to help you progress without boxing yourself in a limiting category. If you are a beginner we suggest the Monday, Tuesday & Thursday classes for you. However after consistent practice of a month we suggest you to try the Wednesday & Friday classes as well. Sundays are the only classes specifically for intermediate levels.

4. What kind of additional support is available?

You will be part of our Whatsapp community group. And you can always reach out to us via the contact page or the email ID/number below. We, at Anukarma, would be overjoyed to guide you through the informed, safe and efficient movement practice that we stand for.
